Condrieu "Chanson" 2023 Stéphane Montez Domaine du Monteillet
Condrieu "Chanson" is the hidden gem of Stéphane Montez. Sourced from a legendary "climat" of the appellation, this cuvée is a model of purity and elegance. Beneath a pale gold robe with brilliant highlights, it unfolds a highly distinguished nose: fresh violet, white apricot, and a hint of verbena typical of the Vérin terroir. On the palate, "Chanson" stands out for its lace-like texture. Far from heavy, the wine offers a silky, infused body, carried by a crystalline minerality that spectacularly lengthens the finish. This is a high-fashion Condrieu—vibrant and profound—prioritizing aromatic finesse over raw power. A connoisseur’s cuvée, produced in very limited quantities.

The Finesse of Muscovite Granite The name "Chanson" (Song) evokes lightness and harmony, two characteristics that Stéphane Montez successfully captures in this bottle.
-
The "Chanson" Climat: Located in Vérin (the historic cradle of Condrieu), this plot sits on highly weathered granite, rich in white mica (muscovite). This specific soil grants the Viognier a directness and unique floral notes.
-
High-Precision Winemaking: Hand-harvested at the peak of freshness. Fermentation takes place in French oak demi-muids. Stéphane uses very little new oak for this cuvée to avoid masking the Viognier's delicate perfume.
-
Long Lees Aging: The wine is aged for about 10 to 12 months with light stirring (bâtonnage), providing the subtle richness that coats its mineral tension.
