Saint Joseph "Cuvée du Papy" 2023 - Stéphane Montez
Cuvée du Papy is an icon of the Saint-Joseph appellation. Sourced from the estate's oldest Syrah vines, planted on steep granitic terraces, it embodies the power and refinement of the Northern Rhône. Beneath a deep purple robe, it releases a complex bouquet of ripe black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), violet, black pepper, and smoky bacon—typical of great granite terroirs. On the palate, the wine commands a dense and fleshy structure, carried by velvety tannins and a mineral freshness that provides sovereign balance. Long aging in demi-muids adds a noble patina and delicately oaked notes. A profound and moving wine for long aging, consistently ranked among the best in its class.

A Tribute to Roots Stéphane Montez takes extreme care with this plot-based cuvée, a true flagship of the family's expertise.
-
Old Vines and Terraces: The vines, over 30 years old (some up to 60), are located on steep slopes. This decomposed granite terroir gives the Syrah natural concentration and exceptional tannic finesse.
-
High-Fashion Winemaking: Hand-harvested at high maturity. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats with regular punching down (pigeage) and pumping over to extract the essence of the fruit and tannins.
-
Long Aging: The wine is aged for approximately 17 to 18 months in French oak demi-muids (about 30% new oak). This patient aging stabilizes the color and refines the structure for optimal cellaring.
