Château Thivin "Clos de Rochebonne" 2024 Beaujolais Blanc

€28.00

The Clos de Rochebonne is an exceptional white wine that challenges the traditional norms of Beaujolais. Sourced from a magnificent 1.5-hectare walled vineyard (clos) in Theizé, this 100% Chardonnay thrives on "pierres dorées" (golden stones) terroir, rich in Jurassic gryphea limestone. This unique soil imparts a structure and minerality reminiscent of the great white wines of Burgundy. Vinified and aged in oak barrels, it offers an elegant nose of white flowers, citrus, and white-fleshed fruits, enhanced by a delicately toasted touch. On the palate, there is a perfect balance between a fleshy, almost buttery texture and a remarkable saline tension. A rare and refined gastronomic white wine that showcases the versatility of Château Thivin’s expertise.

The Elegance of Chardonnay on Golden Stones Clos de Rochebonne is a prestigious enclave. Situated on a hillside facing east toward Mont Blanc, this limestone terroir is ideal for producing white wines of great distinction, worlds away from the volcanic rock of Mount Brouilly.

Technical Details:

  • Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay.

  • Terroir: Jurassic clay-limestone (gryphea limestone), typical of the "Pierres Dorées" region.

  • Exposure: East-facing slope, preserving freshness and acidity.

  • Winemaking: Slow whole-cluster pressing, natural fermentation in oak barrels.

  • Aging: 8 months in oak barrels (no new oak to focus on finesse).

  • Farming: High Environmental Value (HVE) and biodiversity-respecting viticulture.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Very pure, blending hawthorn, fresh lemon, and vineyard peach, with a subtle hint of fresh hazelnut.

  • Palate: Lively attack. The mid-palate is broad and enveloping, driven by a beautiful acidity that stretches the wine toward a saline and persistent finish.
