Located on Bordeaux's Right Bank, Château Vieux Taillefer is a 5-hectare gem nestled in the south of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Since 2006, Catherine and Philippe Cohen have applied a resolutely artisanal philosophy, deeply respectful of the terroir. The estate stands out for its unique plot-by-plot approach—rare in Bordeaux—and the preservation of very old vines, some of which are over a hundred years old. By working without unnecessary additives and using very gentle extraction, Vieux Taillefer produces wines that break away from classic Bordeaux opulence to offer extraordinary elegance, vibration, and silky tannins.

The pillars of Vieux Taillefer expertise:

  • Varietal Richness: While Merlot is dominant, the estate gives pride of place to Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Even rarer, it produces an exceptional white (Le Blanc de Vieux Taillefer) from forgotten or atypical grape varieties for the region (Merlot Blanc, Sauvignon, Sémillon...).

  • A Natural Approach: The vineyard is managed with immense respect for biodiversity. Vinification uses indigenous yeasts and minimal sulfur to preserve the pure brilliance of the fruit.

  • High-Fashion Aging: Moving away from dominant oak flavors, Philippe Cohen uses various containers (seasoned barrels, amphorae) to refine his wines without ever overshadowing their mineral origin.

  • Pavillon de Taillefer: The estate also offers this cuvée, often more accessible in its youth, but crafted with the same commitment to precision and freshness.
