Côtes du Rhône Villages "Terre d'Argile" 2023 Domaine de la Janasse
The Terre d'Argile cuvée is much more than a simple Côtes-du-Rhône. Sourced from plots in Courthézon, on the immediate border of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it takes its name from its dense red clay soils covered with rolled pebbles. This balanced blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan offers remarkable intensity. The nose reveals a generous bouquet of black fruits (blackberry, plum), oriental spices, and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine surprises with its controlled power and fleshy texture, supported by silky tannins. It is a profound, sun-drenched, and upright wine that rivals many prestigious crus in complexity and length. An absolutely exceptional value for the quality.

The Strength of Clay Terroir "Terre d'Argile" is often nicknamed the "Baby Châteauneuf" by the estate's regular customers. It benefits from the same expertise and rigorous winemaking as the house's flagship labels.
-
A Unique Terroir: The red clays provide the wine with internal freshness and a firmer tannic structure than sandy soils, allowing the wine to maintain great balance despite its natural richness.
-
A Bold Blend: The inclusion of Carignan and Mourvèdre alongside Grenache and Syrah adds a noble rustic touch, with notes of leather and excellent aging potential.
-
Signature Aging: Part of the wine is aged in large oak "foudres" to polish the tannins while preserving the brilliance of the fruit. It is a dense but never heavy wine, carried by a spicy finish.
