The brand
Born in 1894 in a Family of Saké producers, Masataka Taketsuru is considered the father of Japanese whiskey. After a chemist formation, he is hired by the company SETSU Shuzo who sends it in Scotland in 1918 to do its apprenticeship. He takes passion for whiskey and decides to devote his life. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success allows him to establish a second in 1969 near Sendai: Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the group Nikka Whiskey declines all its range of Japanese whiskies.
